Birds, cakes and ignorant people (not in that order).

Yesterday was my baking day, and let me tell you, it won't happen again very soon. After 3 hours of baking and making pretty fondant and sugar icing shapes, I decided to take a break and go to the gym. After 30 mins of cardio, I drove to the next town to pick up some stuff for my brother, which they didn't have in the end. And the just took a slow drive back, because the sun was shining yesterday, it was beautiful. Also, I have been on the hunt for peg bags. Karl said that the first time he ever saw a peg bag was in SA. My MIL's (mother-in-law) washing line is always filled with pegs, and whenever you wanna hang up washing, you need to get rid of the million or so pegs on the line. I have looked everywhere for them, and can't find any! My pet peeve here at the moment is ignorant people. Just because I look foreign, doesn't mean I don't speak english. While looking for these peg bags, I went up to a shop assistant and asked her where the pegs are. And she looked at me funny and said, they what? And I'm like, the pegs. And she said: and what do you do with them. I got very irritated and said: you use them to hang up clothes. And she said: OH, PEGS! and I said: thats what I said, pegs. Its so irritating, and its not an accent thing, its an ignorance thing! So guess what I'm gonna buy a few of and hand them out as Xmas gifts this said: peg bags.

Birds seem to like my FIL (father-in-law). While I was putting the final decor on the cake, he rushed inside with this little robin. It had flown straight into the window at full speed.
A bird in the hand and all!
Can you see where it hit the window?
My FIL put him outside on the table for a while. and he kept closing his eyes and shivering, so we got it a box and put it in the lounge, where it was a bit warmer. I was sure it was gonna die. Well, about an hour later, it was fluttering about the lounge, and my FIL had to catch it and let it go outside.
Fly away robin

Anyway, back to the cake. It turned out pretty well actually. I'm not a great fan of carrot cake, but it was so moist and yummy that I had 2 slices. We ended up giving most of it away to the family last night, because it was far too much. But now I understand why people charge so much for these kind of cakes, it takes hours of preparation! Here are the pics:
decorations took hours!
pretty, but cracked roses
couldn't find a cake board...
so made one out of a next catalogue

I woke up with a cold this morning :( probably from walking up and down the road delivering cake last night, while only wearing a skimpy jersey :( Trying to find the rest of my corenza to kill it now. We're going to Chester tomorrow for the weekend, for my oldest friends 30th birthday, Ryan, and I just cannot be sick!! We are flying out of Belfast into Liverpool and then, because it was cheaper, on the way back, we are flying from Liverpool to Derry, which is about 2hrs away. So Sunday is gonna be full of buses, planes and trains! Wish me luck! Anyway, duty calls, my MIL wants me to drop off a few slices of the cake at her work, so gonna get dressed and go. xxx
